This major is for those who want to produce or study art that may fall outside the traditional boundaries of other studio areas.
New media such as video art, computer-generated works and installation art currently are top choices for this program. Although, performance art represents another option for those looking to present live theatre-like art in non-theatrical settings.
Students pursuing a B.F.A. with an emphasis in Alternative Media are required to complete 15 credit hours in art history, 64 credit hours in studio courses and three credit hours writing a B.F.A thesis.
Advanced standing in the B.F.A. program normally is granted after a student submits an application and has his/her work reviewed by the faculty. This process takes places one year prior to graduation.
If you plan on majoring in art, dance, music, or theatre, you must complete a portfolio review or audition as part of your application to Webster.

Webster’s campus in Vienna is known for its thriving art programs. Generations of students, artists, and “connoisseurs of living” have sought out the city’s rich history of art, music, and museums.
Webster’s courses utilize the rich and varied resources of the city—a living laboratory of art spanning the centuries from the prehistoric Venus of Willendorf to cutting-edge contemporary art.
In fact, with more than 100 museums in Vienna alone, you can view art normally seen only in history books. Get involved with contemporary art activities through Webster courses and our internships with local artists.
