Today's advances in biological sciences influence the way we think and live more dramatically than ever before. A Webster Biology degree gives you the opportunity to forge a career in an array of these burgeoning fields, including: biological research, medicine, veterinary medicine, dentistry, science education, and science-related government, business and industry.
All Webster biology students complete a senior research project that demonstrates their ability to combine a mastery of lab and biological science concepts with research and presentation skills. Students also can complete internships with organizations such as the Missouri Botanical Garden, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, Saint Louis Zoo, St. Louis Children's Aquarium, and St. Louis Department of Water Facilities.
Webster offers three different Biology degrees. Each is designed to provide a liberal arts education with a focus on the physiological functions of living organisms and their underlying structures and systems:
Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biology
The B.A. in Biology curriculum prepares you for a background in biology while enabling you to study a secondary discipline such as education or business.
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biology
The B.S. in Biology prepares you with the biology background needed to pursue graduate studies or attend a professional school for further study in the sciences.
B.S. in Biology -- Emphasis in Biotechnology
The Biology degree with a Biotechnology emphasis equips you for traditional careers in biological sciences as well as growing biotech fields such as genetics, pharmaceuticals, immunology, and forensic science. In addition to the Bachelors of Science in Biology curriculum, biotechnology students complete biotech-specific classes such as immunology, genome organization and expression, and virology.
Upon completion of emphasis in biotechnology, you will be prepared to enter this new and expanding field as a biotechnology technician or research assistant.
