Dance majors explore the spectrum of dance, from classical ballet to jazz and tap. It's an education complemented with classes in anatomy, choreography and composition, and costuming and construction.
The goal is to prepare students for careers in performance, choreography, private instruction or for entrance into a master of fine arts (M.F.A.) program.
On-campus opportunities include: Webster Dance Theatre, a professional in-residence dance company; Webster University Dance Ensemble, a student company; B.F.A. Concerts; and Dance Line, which performs for basketball half-time shows.
Acceptance to the dance department as a degree-seeking student is by audition. Each dancer must be prepared to work in ballet, modern dance and jazz. On-campus auditions are recommended.
B.F.A. candidates are required to apply for the program, normally prior to the end of their sophomore year. The student must submit a n example of choreography and demonstrate a certain degree of expertise.
