Webster University provides all the latest-and-greatest tools to assist aspiring filmmakers, but it's up to them to bring the creativity and drive.

Students majoring in Film Production will see a systematic and thorough approach to the study of film. They'll learn the technical aspects and aesthetic considerations of the craft by working on group film projects, as well as their own films.

On campus, the university plays host to the Webster Film Series, a nationally recognized, year-round film exhibition program. It is the Midwest's premiere hosting venue for film and represents a genuine cinematic alternative in the St. Louis community. All films are free to students.

Students interested in studying film production must complete a department admissions application, which includes:

  • a personal statement outlining the applicant's motivation and career goals in the area of film production;
  • a short essay presenting the applicant's critical understanding of a specific film; and,
  • supportive material that demonstrates the applicant's potential in the
  • creative and technical aspects of film production.

The department admissions application may be obtained from the Webster University Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

Here's a sampling of achievements from past film production students:

  • Brian Jun was invited into the talent program Fox Searchlab after a screening of his student film “For Jimmy Brown” at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival in 2001. “Steel City” debuted at Sundance Film Festival in 2006.
  • Michael Witman's 2001 short film “Defining Reason” screened at the St. Louis International Film Festival and took first place in college entertainment at the St. Louis Student Film Festival.
