Webster University proves an inspiring place to study the history, aesthetics and critical approaches to film and the filmmaking process. It's home to the only venue in the area that regularly hosts media artists currently working in the industry.

As a Film Studies major at the university you'll move from a general survey of the craft to specific, in-depth studies of specific genres, filmmakers and theories. Upper-level courses focus on detailed analysis of film genres, filmmakers and international cinema.

The major includes basic film production courses and can be a launching pad for careers in film writing, producing and directing, as well as film restoration and preservation.

On campus, the university plays host to the Webster Film Series, a year-round program that prides itself as the most comprehensive alternative film series in the St. Louis region. It's here that working artists display their work.

The Webster Film Series offers a premiere film almost every weekend and frequently screens classic cinema on weeknights. Past visiting filmmakers include documentary filmmaker Ken Burns and writer/director John Waters. The films are free to students.
