Students pursuing a degree in Instrumental Performance may choose classical guitar; percussion; or, orchestral wind, brass or string instruments.
Private instruction is provided by faculty members and members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
The program includes intensive applied instruction, weekly recitals and master classes. Large ensemble and chamber music experiences also are available. The culmination of study is the presentation of two full-length public recitals.
Music majors with an instrumental performance emphasis should expect to perform in University-sponsored ensemble concerts, including choral concerts, musical theatre performances, or Opera Studio, as designated by the faculty. Students also spend time as performance assistants for recitals.
Applicants to the undergraduate music program must complete an in-person audition or interview with the music faculty and complete a music theory diagnostic examination. The examination is used to assist faculty in placing students in the proper classes.
