We specialize in philosophies that address everyday existence and its concerns. In addition to traditional courses such as History of Philosophy, Ethics, Political Philosophy, Aesthetics, Epistemology, and Logic, our students particularly enjoy courses such as:
An exciting aspect of our program is its international component, with human rights courses offered at Webster's Geneva campus and modern philosophy at Webster Vienna. These and other study abroad opportunities are conveniently accessible to all Webster students.
Outside of the classroom, our students edit an annual journal of student work, Sophia, and organize themselves as the Philosophy Club.
In the Philosophers' Film Series, our students view and discuss films, such as "Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story," "Shower," and "Roger and Me." Our visiting speaker series includes a great variety of philosophers and thinkers from around the world and across disciplines.Emphasis in Ethics and Society
Students completing the major in Ethics and Society study the ethical issues pertinent to several disciplines, professions, and topics. They acquire a strong grounding in ethical, social, and political philosophy and will have gained experience in identifying and analyzing ethical issues and problems that arise in public life.
International Human Rights
Offered through the Philosophy Department, the bachelor’s degree in International Human Rights encourage greater understanding of international human rights standards, problems, and solutions.
Career Opportunities
Webster University philosophy graduates have gone into law, governmental policy-making, community service, international relations, research review, and analysis of professional codes.
Many pursue advanced studies in philosophy or other disciplines at schools such as American University in D.C., Washington University in St. Louis, University of Colorado, Southern Illinois University, and the New School for Social Research in New York.

Webster's College of Arts & Sciences is the intellectual foundation of the University.
